Golden Railroad Museum

Visited the Colorado Railroad Museum which is located at the foot of North Table Mountain just East of Golden. It's a 14-acre museum that has more than 90 historic locomotives and cars. The depot-style main museum building houses two levels of photographic document and artifact displays, as well as a large operating HO model railroad layout. We spent 2-3 hours climbing on the trains and taking in all the history.

Club car or parlor car.

Snow plow used to clear the tracks

Mail car where the mail was sorted into cities while the car was enroute to destinations. The train never stopped to pick up or drop off the mail. The mail bags were thrown off the trains while in motion and picked up on a special hook by the mail handlers.

Lookout Mountain - Buffalo Bill - July 7, 2009

View from Lookout Mountain -- overlooking Golden and the Rocky Mountains.

Bill loved this area and requested to be buried on top of Lookout Mountain. There is a Buffalo Bill Museum that chronicles his life from a child through his many adventures as a Pony Express rider, fighting in the Civil War, the Indian wars to his acting career and producing his ever popular Wild West Shows.

Wendy & Troy - Golden, CO

Our campground on Katie Lane. We expect to be here for 6 weeks or so and expect to do some hiking and exploring the area.

Katie Lane is a dirt road in Coal Creek Canyon -- horse country. I take morning walks looking for wildlife -- so far no deer, bears or mountain lions -- only a jack rabbit.

Beautiful downtown Golden -- home to Coors beer, a quilt museum and many quaint shops.

Did a little beer and wine tasting.

4th of July in Colorado

By doing a Cannonball run across the country, we made it to Colorado in three days -- in time to celebrate July 4th with Wendy and Troy. We went to Estes State Park to visit their neighbors who were camping in the area and also to go to the area's firework's display.

It was initially pouring, but we didn't care -- Wendy and I had our umbrellas -- girlie beers and all!

Troy bartered a parking spot for a grill to cook his hot dogs.

The rain stopped and the sun came out -- was a beautiful night and the fireworks were great.

On The Road Again - July 1, 2009

We've come full circle. After spending a month in NH, we're back on the road heading to CO to visit Wendy and Troy. It's been a just about a year since we've seen them and are looking forward to our stay. We hope to be there to join in their 4th of July festivities.

We had a great time in NH re-connecting with family and friends. We spent a month parked at my brother Bob's home in Rochester. He's so funny and Shirl is like a sister to me. We had fun getting together walking the streets of Rochester -- they showed me different routes and just about everyday we walked different routes. Sometimes I even went twice a day getting in up to 7 miles. I also went to UNH to see my former co-workers and also walk again with my walking partners Hope and Dwain. As usual, I had to hustle to keep up, but it was sure fun to see them. All this walking did not offset the BBQ's, lunch and dinners out with family and friends. It's time to buckle down and get back to healthier, leaner eating.

We spent last night at a rest area in Eastville, PA (part of Clinton County), and are currently riding through the beautiful hills of PA and it's raining -- just like the whole month of June in NH! But we don't care. The scenery is still beautiful with the blue skies off in the distance with the fog like clouds hanging over the mountains and in the valleys. Everything is green and beautiful! We should be in Iowa by the end of the day.

I was really surprised by all who told me that they read the blog -- thanks so much for reading and keeping track of us. I promise to try to keep it more current. Take care all -- till next time....

New Hampshire

We're in New Hampshire parked at my brother's house in Rochester. This is the month to take care of all our medical appointments -- dentist, eye, physical, colonoscopy and Rene needs a root canal (ugh). But more importantly, it's our time to re-connect with family and friends.

We were initially parked in Dover at Donna and Ricks' and then went to the Maine Samboree where we got up with Duane and Marie -- we really surprised them and it was wonderful to see them.

Sunday was spent as a MHD (Mental Health Day for Debbie), with my sisters (Cindy - we missed you not being with us) where we spent the day in Kennebunkport, ME and then went to Wells to visit Counsin Linda and husband Tom and also Ma Tante Syl. Always a great time with them.

We'll be here until the end of the month and then will be heading to CO to hopefully be with Wendy and Troy by July 4th.

Pennsylvania Dutch Country

Rode through Intercourse, PA -- beautiful farm lands and Amish passing through the town. There were interesting shops and I loved the quilt shop in town. Was interesting visiting a tourist Amish Village where we learned of the Amish way of life. On their farms some have diesel generators to power the water pumps and air compressor.
Kitchen appliances such as the stove and refrigerator were powered by propane and smaller items such as food mixer was powered by an air driven motor. The Amish will not connect to outside power sources such as public services as they believe that this is like an invasion of privacy, they will generate there own on site.
